Awake! The Spring

20 x 28 Watercolor, 2004. My family passed by this sugarshack in the little village of Warren the winter we all worked at the ski area, Sugarbush. A sugarbush is a collection of hardwood maple trees where sap is collected when temperatures rise in early spring. It is said that it takes forty gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup. Water in the sap is evaporated, the steam rising through the top of the shack, depicted. Sugar on Snow is a part of old Vermont tradition!
